Dad and I finalized plans for traveling this Thanksgiving. We will be gone from Saturday, November 17 through Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. We are staying a couple of nights at the front end of the trip in Washington, DC, and then heading up to Wellsboro for the remainder of the week, returning to the lake on Friday. As you probably know, being away from home and family for Thanksgiving causes me some angst, as always. BUT it's important to recognize that we have family in PA that we want to spend some time with. We seem to be developing a pattern of going there every other Thanksgiving and sometimes every other summer (though I haven't been in two years). I hope you all understand our need and desire to make this trip.
Since we will be staying in hotels, Dixie will not be traveling with us. If any of you are interested in helping us out for part of her care for this extended time, we'd love to hear some suggestions. We would happily pay the boarding fee to family members who can keep her part or all of the time so that she wouldn't have to be boarded the whole time at the vet. Boarding fee is $18.00 a day. If you would like to share in this project by having her for a few days at your house or spending a night or two at our house with her, I can start working on her itinerary. We are boarding her in Garner at her regular vet now...so she could go in for a couple of days while we're gone and stay at home (if somebody can spend some time here with her) or stay at somebody's house for part of the time...I think we can work out a plan...and remember, we would happily pay you what we would pay the vet...it's just that we'd rather have her with family if possible.
I'm looking forward to our regular, traditional Christmas celebration with everybody, unless any of you are making different plans. If you are, please let us know as your plans unfold. You know how much I love having everybody together at least once a year. This blog would be a good place to discuss any changes you'd like to make or post any requests that people have. I know we probably need to "tone things down" a little bit in some areas...as our family is getting so big. With the ages of the grandchildren as they are now, I think one thing that the siblings and significant others might consider is maybe letting Opa and I (and the older grandchildren) baby-sit for you all to go out together for a meal or drinks or something, rather than the gift exchange...I don't know...it's just a suggestion... If you are all able to come on Christmas Day, as you usually do, I can adjust meals as you would like me to...Also, if anybody wants to suggest any changes in gifting, etc., you could post them here on the blog and everybody can participate in the discussion. I'm not saying we HAVE to make changes, but I do think we should ALL be open to suggestions and change. My only thing is I just love it when we can be together.
Well, I guess I've rambled enough. One thing I do wonder is...do you get e-mail notification when I post on here? Or do I need to e-mail everybody separately that there is a new entry?

You do not get an email from the blog folks when a new blog is posted.
We would be happy to have Dixie stay with us. We actually will be in Raleigh on the weekend of Nov. 17th for Holly's cheerleading competition at NC State. We would like to stay at your house if that will work? We can bring Dixie back with us on Sunday/Saturday evening. The only thing is I'm not sure how she will get back to Raleigh....so just let me know. No payment necessary! :)
As for Christmas, we will probably come some time on Christmas Day as we usually do.
Jen-I have invited myself to your house for Thanksgiving :) if that's okay-then I can bring Dixie back to Raleigh with me on Saturday.
Hello everyone, I'm a long time reader- first time poster! I just wanted to let everyone know that Jane and Bob have told us that they only want one thing for Christmas. If you would like to "go in" on this and would like details you can email, call or myspace me or Jodi. Hope that everyone is well! Tonya, you and I should see when we're working the same hours and have lunch sometime.
