The newly crowned Miss America was just on Regis and Kelly. Cute enough, I guess...and I know I have become an old curmudgeon (though I think curmudgeons are usually MEN), but two things she said really annoyed me. First of all, she announced on national tv that for the first time this year Miss America's wardrobe is sponsored and she gets to keep her clothes...then she said that the sponsor is based out of CANADA. Now will somebody please explain to me why Miss America's wardrobe is sponsored by a designer (or whatever they're called) from another COUNTRY????? Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
Then, she went on to say how absolutely shocked and surprised that she won because, "....we all worked SO HARD to get there." PUHHHLLLLEEEZZEEE! Are you kidding me? Being in a beauty pageant or even hundreds of them is working SO HARD. Oh yeah, she did say she worked really hard to be in top physical condition so she could feel comfortable being onstage in a bathing suit. I just really wanted to gag!
I'm reminded of what I used to say to my students when they said a test or something was HARD...I would say to them, "This isn't hard...birthing a baby...that's hard; fighting in a foxhole...that's hard...this isn't hard."
I just don't think wearing all those pretty clothes from CANADA and traveling all over the country on somebody else's dime is really all that hard. I think she ought to try to work for ONE DAY at ANY of my adult children's jobs if she wants to learn something about WORKING HARD!
Oh yeah, and she has that wonderful WORKING HARD college major too...anybody want to guess...yep, you got it COMMUNICATIONS!

I agree completely!
For REAL - she can come have my job for just 1/2 day. I have written 5 IEP's this week, seriously - no lie and each one is 20+ pages long now. that is over 100 pages of info to fill out...IN ADDITION to my regular duties of teaching, meetings, and bus duty...for REAL - give me some Canadian clothes and a free ride ANY DAY!
