Appalachian Morning
As fragile Waterford
On a sky-blue cloth
Catches the glimmer of light
From glowing candles,
The ice-crystal glaze
On the leaf-bare tree
Reflects the golden rays
Of morning sun.
A scarlet cardinal
On a shining limb
Perches like a velvet rose
In a delicate vase.
My eyes feast
At God's breakfast table.
