In Defense of Dr. Phil

To be honest, I thought...and still think...that it's a mistake for Dr. Phil to have taken on his own full-length show. I thought he was at his best when he was on short segments on Oprah.

Further, I'm a little surprised that he has been able to sustain (and apparently renew for a few more years) his hour-long show.

Having said that, though, I'm reminded of what I used to tell my students about such great American philosophers as Ralph Waldo Emerson...that is...sometimes it's hard to slug through their pedantic verbosity to get to "the nuggets"...those golden little nuggets of truth that are so simple in their expression and so rich in meaning.

That's kinda what I'm saying about Dr. Phil. Once you distill from the seemingly endless drivel and drama, you're left with a few things that I think are pretty much "nuggets of truth" or "pearls of wisdom", whatever you want to call them. Since it's apparently "my" blog...I think I'll share some of these.

1. "You teach people how to treat you."
2. "Based on results, how's that working for you?"
3. "You should wake up every morning, asking yourself, 'How can I make my (loved one's) life better and happier?'"

I know there are some more, but these are the ones that are on my mind today. Anybody else have any thoughts?
